Analyse the Similarities and Differences Between...
1.0 Introduction Traditional heraldry and contemporary corporate visual identity (CVI) are the two systems that communicate the idea of identification. Identification is not only for modern world, as far back as during medieval ages, identification already started in the form of heraldry. Traditional heraldry uses different design approach but mainly is to communicate identity. Even though both identity systems exist in two different eras, they share the similar purpose, which is mainly to identify. Moreover, designs and symbolism also play an important role on identification. For example, the McDonaldââ¬â¢s Golden Arches logo (Figure 1), which resembles an ââ¬Å"Mâ⬠for ââ¬Å"McDonaldââ¬â¢sâ⬠, is a famous logo that can be easily recognized. There areâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The red script of Coca-Cola is so unique and significant that one can recognize by its font but not from the text itself. For example, Figure 7 is a Coca-Cola logo written in Israel language. Obviously, it still can be distinguished that is Coca-Cola drinks but not any other drinks. According to Olins (1995, p. 008), he suggested that organisation used corporate identity program to differentiate itself from the competition. It means that CVI is designed to distinguish one organization from the others. For example, the Nike logo in Figure 8, which is also known as Swoosh, is one of the most famous logo that almost everyone can recognize. The word Nike is the Greek goddess of victory while the Swoosh represents the wing. The slogan ââ¬Å"Just Do Itâ⬠(Figure 9) match with the logo design and communicated a strong point of view that the meaning of logo design evolved into a battle cry and the way of life for an entire generation (Dinesh,2010).
