Lymphoma Lymphoma is when cells in the lymph system change and grow uncontrollably that may form a tumor. In the lymph system there are thin tubes that branch out to all different parts of the body (Types of Cancer: Lymphoma). Its job is to fight infections and diseases. In the lymph system it carries lymph which is colorless fluid containing lymphocytes that are white blood cells. The main job of a lymphocyte is to fight of germs in the body. Two main lymphocytes are B-lymphocytes and T-lymphocytes. B-lymphocytes also called B-cells make antibodies to fight off bacteria and T-lymphocytes kill viruses, foreign cells and triggers B-cells to make antibodies (Types of Cancer: Lymphoma). In different areas of the lymph systemsâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦There are three different treatments for Hodgkin and most patients respond well, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and stem cell transplant (Leukaemia amp; Lymphoma Research). Chemotherapy is the main combination of anti-cancer drugs. To have the be st result these drugs need to be taken in a sequence. Due to specific diagnosis and stages of their disease patients will be given different protocols. Radiotherapy for some patients could be used along with chemotherapy. This uses high energy rays to kill cancer cells and during treatment shows decrease in the disease (Leukaemia amp; Lymphoma Research). Stem cell transplant is used when all the other treatments are unsuccessful. ââ¬Å"This treatment is the most intensive form and most cases patients have these transplant using their own stem cells which is called autologous transplantâ⬠(Leukaemia amp; Lymphoma Researchn.d.pg6 para 3). There are different treatments for the three stages early, late, relapsed or refractory. In early stage 1 and 2 the widely used treatment is chemotherapy (Leukaemia amp; Lymphoma Research). Radiotherapy could follow to areas where lymph nodes are enlarged. The next is late stage 3 and 4 they will be advised to take part in clinical trial if mee t criteria. If doesnââ¬â¢t meet the criteria then chemotherapy will be used yet it is a higher doses than in the earlier stages.
